Hollywood Recognizes Jaclyn Jose’s Legacy In Oscars 2025 ‘In Memoriam’ Tribute

The 97th Academy Awards recently honored the late veteran Filipina actress Jaclyn Jose alongside Hollywood stars, artists, and filmmakers who have passed away in the last year in the “In Memoriam” section of the event.

Born as Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck on October 21, 1963, in Angeles City, Pampanga, Jose began her acting career in the early 1980s. She quickly gained traction for her versatility and depth in portraying complex characters and was dubbed as the “Queen of Underacting” for her skills in delivering subtle and understated performances.

Jose passed away in March of 2024 due to a heart attack, ending a four-decade long acting career.

In 2016, Jose achieved international acclaim by winning the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her stellar acting in “Ma’ Rosa”, making her the first Filipino to achieve this honor. Her decorated career even includes five Gawad Urian Awards, two Luna Awards and a FAMAS Award.

Paying respect to the artists who have built their careers in the entertainment industry, the Academy, most commonly known as Oscars, “honors friends and colleagues we lost over the last year.” It invites fans to “take a moment to remember the artists and filmmakers we lost in 2024-2025.”

Andi Eigenmann, Jose’s daughter, took to Instagram a screenshot of her mother’s appearance on the Academy’s In Memoriam, acknowledging her inclusion.

“My Nanay is among other Hollywood artists and filmmakers who are remembered by the Academy this year,” she captioned.
