Multi-awarded Filipino scientist Glenn Suerte Banaguas was the first Filipino to gain a fellowship under the Royal Society of Arts in the United Kingdom.

Glenn Banaguas is a Filipino expert when it comes to the fields of environment, disaster risks, and climate change. With his expertise, he was able to receive well-known recognitions, such as the United Nations Sasakawa Laureate for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2022.

Recently, with his outstanding hard work on environmental issues, Banaguas was hailed as the first Filipino national to be a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

The Royal Society of Arts, or RSA, is an organization in London that aims to provide different practical solutions to social challenges across the world.

The fellowship for this prestigious organization was given to individuals who present the RSA values of developing and improving platforms to engage ideas for common societal dilemmas.

Some of the known members of the RSA are Stephen Hawking and Charles Dickens.

Celebrating Banaguas’ success, President Marcos Jr. extended his recognition of the scientist’s achievement.

“Tunay ngang ang galing at talino ng mga Pilipino ay maipagmamalaki saan man sa mundo. Maraming salamat sa kahusayang iyong patuloy na ipinamamalas.” the President said in his Facebook page.

With this recent achievement, the scientist expressed his gratitude not only to the country’s support but also to RSA and looked forward to his future contributions to society as a fellow of the organization.

“I hope to be able to contribute even just a fraction of what they have given to the world. I pray that this recognition will bring an atmosphere of positivity and create a compassion among nations,” Banaguas said.
