Pinoy boxing legend and former legislator Manny Pacquiao is all set for his boxing return in an exhibition match against DK Yoo, a Korean Youtuber. A contract signing has already been set for July 20 at the Shangri-La The Fort in BGC, where details of the match will be announced.
This will be the first ring appearance for Pacquiao since his retirement after losing his bid for the WBA welterweight title against Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugas via unanimous decision in August last year at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It will also mark Pacquiao’s return to fighting since losing his bid for the presidency of the Philippines last May, in which he finished off as the 3rd placer behind President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and former Vice President Leni Robredo. Pacquiao ended his 26 year professional career in boxing with 62 wins, built on 39 knockouts and eight losses, at the age of 42.
Meanwhile, Yoo has a huge following in Korea, with his Youtube channel totaling 654,000 subscribers to date. The Korean previously met UFC veteran Bradley Scott last year in a boxing match and lost. Yoo describes himself as a movement, mediation, and fighting coach and the founder of the Warfare Combat System Method.
Yoo earlier announced on his Youtube channel that he would be fighting the eight-division world boxing champion, which is set to be held in December.
Yoo said that he will fight against one of the world’s best fighters. Pacquiao responded that he would see DK Yoo in the special event this December. The video also revealed a picture of the two at Pacquiao’s house in General Santos last June 2022.
It can be noted that exhibition matches have been popularized by no less than Floyd Mayweather himself. Mayweather has been lining his pockets with lucrative exhibitions in Japan and the United Arab Emirates. He also defeated Pacquaio in 2015, boxing’s richest fight ever.
