“Idol Philippines” season 2 grand winner Khimo Gumatay has released his first recording “Nasunog,” a prelude to his full-length album that is already in the works.

“Nasunog” is about loving someone over and over even after one loses himself in the process. It was penned by Khimo together with ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, who also served as the song producer, and Star Pop label head Rox Santos.

The agonizing R&B single will be part of Khimo’s soon-to-drop album, which he has been working on since January this year that will carry his original compositions.

The Kapamilya singer-performer and former tattoo artist started his musical journey at 7 years old when he got his first guitar and instantly fell in love with it. He’s into funk, neo soul, R&B, and blues music.

He eventually ventured into songwriting when he was in junior high school following his love for poetry writing. “Mahilig akong sumulat ng tula. Bakit di ko siya i-translate into song composition? So, ayun nga ang nagdrive sa akin,” he recounted.

Now that he has entered the recording industry, Khimo gratefully looked back on how “Idol PH” changed his life.

He said, “Sobrang nagbago kasi ginagawa ko na yung bagay na sobrang gusto ko, which is performing sa maraming tao and doing music.”
