Filipino architect and overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Mitchelle Gorospe Ignacio paves the way for Filipino architects to be recognized at the global level as she becomes one of the designers of Malaysia’s Merdeka 118.

An alumna of the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao, Architect Ignacio is one of the reputable architects in Malaysia and is currently the Chapter President of the United Architects of the Philippines Kuala Lumpur Chapter (UAPKL).

Ignacio previously worked at a construction company in Doha, Qatar, before flying to Malaysia when she was hired by RSP Architects Sdn Bhd back in 2013, the architectural firm behind the Merdeka 118.

During President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s state visit to Malaysia last week, Ignacio was among the Filipinos invited by the Department of Foreign Affairs to attend the gathering.

The Merdeka 118 is the tallest tower in Malaysia and the second tallest skyscraper in the world after the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai.
