The city council here has endorsed a river channel in Barangay Baikingon on Wednesday as a potential eco-adventure tourism site, citing its natural features and economic potential for locals.

Councilor Joyleen Mercedes Balaba said an assessment of Bungkalalan River showed its suitability for river trekking, kayaking, bamboo rafting, swimming, wildlife viewing and educational tours.

“Developing the river as an eco-tourism site could generate new livelihood opportunities for residents,” Balaba said in an interview.

She said the project could support small enterprises and promote community participation through sustainable tourism.

The proposal follows a presentation by Barangay Baikingon Chairperson Ronello Gumapac to the council’s tourism committee in December 2025, highlighting the river’s potential for water-based adventure activities. (PNA)
