The Arenas Christmas Village in Barangay Nancapian in this town has been opened to the public, bringing joy to visitors and to those whose livelihood depends largely on them – the vendors.

“In the morning, my wife and I sell at the town proper and at nighttime, we go here (Christmas Village),” Lester Isuan, a “buko” (coconut) juice vendor, said in an interview Thursday.

A resident of Barangay Canan Norte, Isuan said their daily income doubles during the Christmas season.

The Arenas Christmas Village, located in the property owned by the family of Pangasinan 2nd District Rep. Rachel Arenas, is open to the public, including vendors, for free.

Toy seller, Aljon Ballesteros, said visitors flock to the place, especially during weekends, with their number peaking during the Christmas break of the students.

“This is a big help to us since we are given space to sell our products without any fee,” he said. “And it lasts for more than a month.”

The Arenas Christmas Village features various sizes of Christmas trees and lighted displays, such as Santa’s sleigh, complete with reindeer. A castle and Santa’s work station add to the attraction.

The place also boasts of a spacious lawn where parents can sit and rest while their children play and run around.

Municipal councilor Vincent Arenas said the area is open from 6 p.m. until around 10 p.m. daily.

“We invite everyone to come here and enjoy. We have 38 vendors who sell delicious food and drinks,” he said.

The village will be open from Nov. 16 to Jan. 3 next year. On New Year’s Eve, it will be the venue for a fireworks display. (PNA)
