PH Logs 2,196 New Covid-19 Cases

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 2,196 new Covid-19 infections, marking another drop in the number of cases from Wednesday’s 2,671.

This is the fourth straight day the Philippines logged cases below 3,000.

In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the DOH said there were 4,409 new recoveries, lower than Wednesday’s 6,130, that bring the country’s total recoveries to 3,524,875 or 96.7 percent of all confirmed cases.

To date, there are 66,588 active cases of Covid-19 nationwide, with about 93 percent made up of mild or asymptomatic cases.

Most active cases have mild symptoms at 60,848, followed by those with moderate symptoms at 2,913, the asymptomatic at 1,090, those with severe symptoms at 1,428, and those in critical condition at 309.

There were 107 new deaths attributed to Covid-19, which brings the total of local Covid-19 deaths to 55,330 or 1.52 percent of confirmed cases.

Based on the latest testing data, there were 29,392 Covid-19 tests administered on Tuesday with a positivity rate of 9.7 percent.

Most health care facilities in the country remain available, with about 3,900 beds at intensive care units at 31 percent occupancy, 20,700 isolation beds at 27 percent occupancy, 14,900 ward beds at 23 percent occupancy, and 17 percent of 3,100 ventilators are in use.

In the National Capital Region alone, there are 1,300 ICU beds at 31 percent occupancy, 4,500 isolation beds at 25 percent occupancy, 4,200 ward beds at 26 percent occupancy, and 20 percent of 1,100 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
