Over 300 delegates from 30 countries worldwide will converge in Cebu this week for the two events of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNTO).

In a statement, the UNTO said the country was chosen to host two separate events, both will be held here.

The first event –the inaugural of the UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific, will take place on June 26.

“It will bring together destinations and international experts to exchange knowledge and best practices, with the objective of harnessing its transformative power, especially for the benefit of local communities and the environment,” the organizers said.

The UN Tourism will hold its 36th Joint Commission Meeting of the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the Commission for South Asia on June 28.

The statement said the Joint Commission Meeting is a major UN meeting.

The tourism body is expected to discuss preparations for the World Tourism Day 2024.

The delegates will also discuss on Friday the implementation and prioritization of sustainable tourism, adopting a theme that focuses on green tourism and education.

The provincial government will highlight Cebu’s tourism as one of the country’s biggest players in the industry.

The provincial government’s media arm said the delegates of the two events will be treated on a tour to Camotes Island, Dalaguete, Argao, and the world-renowned Bojo River in Aloguinsan town.
