The premier university of the Philippines, UP Diliman, is more than just a place of academic excellence—it’s a vibrant, welcoming space open to everyone. Whether you’re a future Iskolar ng Bayan, a proud alum, or simply a curious visitor, you don’t need a student ID to experience what the campus has to offer.

From morning jogs around the scenic Academic Oval to quiet moments in the Sunken Garden, the campus invites you to take part in its unique culture and rich history. So if you’re an incoming freshman eager to explore your new home, or someone looking to discover the heart of Quezon City, here are five things you can do when visiting the UP Diliman campus.

Exercise Around the Academic Oval

The UP academic oval, the heart of the campus and a road that goes full circle towards different academic buildings and college units, covers a total distance of 2.2 kilometers. It’s a perfect place to cycle or even jog. You can download the Strava running app, or join a running group! This is fitness done the UP Diliman way.

Have a Picnic in Sunken Garden

The iconic sunken garden, where the UP fair is held every year, is, just like the name suggests, a garden that seems to be built on a crater. It’s the perfect place to bask in the sun and have a chat with friends. Maybe you could even bring a picnic blanket and share a meal outdoors.

Café Hop

UPD is home to lots of different cafés, offering matcha, coffee, and even non-caffeinated drinks. Just check out this post, where you can find key information about the coffee scene on campus. Not only that, but most of these places are super affordable due to having student-friendly prices.

Play Tennis At The Tennis Courts

Ready to be the next Alex Eala? Look no further, because there is a tennis court located right along the academic oval. It’s the perfect place to hone your tennis skills, whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner. (Bonus: The tennis court is free for one hour for students!)

Visit The Vargas Museum

The Vargas Museum, also located along the academic oval and beside the College of Arts and Letters, is a hub of Philippine art and culture. It features the esteemed collection of Jorge B. Vargas, the Philippines’ inaugural Executive Secretary and a University of the Philippines alumnus. The museum curates dynamic exhibitions and hosts workshops and community art initiatives, perfect for any art connoisseurs out there.
