A 5,000 square meter public park in Los Amigos, one of three projects scheduled for opening this year, was unveiled by the Davao City government on Monday to provide some relaxation for residents.

City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) head, Engr. Marivic Reyes, said on Tuesday the P26-million public park is a “gift for the Dabawenyos.”

“(This will) bring more life to our city and improve even more our quality of living. Our only wish is for the people to keep this public property clean,” Reyes said.

Reyes said CENRO is confident the Bucana Pocket Park and Communal Pocket Park will also open shortly.

About P8.9 million is allocated to the public park in Bucana while P12 million was appropriated to the Communal Pocket Park.

CENRO also bared that another public park in Doña Vicenta Village, its biggest one yet at P82.6 million, is also being completed.

Reyes said more public parks are being studied and developed, including a proposed greenway park along Roxas Avenue and the vicinity of the coastal road.

The development of these public parks is in line with the local government’s bid to make Davao City more livable and accommodating to children and their families, he said.

“The parks are strategically placed in the heart of some of the most populous districts in Davao City, in line with the city’s comprehensive development plan for public land use and ensuring that all Dabawenyos have equal access to public recreational amenities,” he added. (PNA)
