The most awaited 2024 Met Gala dazzled with a theme of “Garden of Time,” which took place on May 6th. More than fulfilling its fundraising event as their goal, the gala showcases the crème de la crème of haute couture looks from the most prominent fashion houses.
Known personalities and artists are fond of surprises by wearing stunning and unique outfits that match the theme, not to mention those people who have been waiting to see who hits and misses it on the carpet.
The launch of the official exhibit was presented by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” while the overarching theme and dress code for the Met Gala is centered around the concept of the “Garden of Time.”
Presenting you the artists who arrived and nailed this year’s Met Gala 2024:
1. Zendaya in Maison Margiela by John Galliano and archival Givenchy by John Galliano
As co-chair of the evening, Zendaya met the expectations on perfecting the theme. She’s the first one who arrived in a Maison Margiela by John Galliano and went back to climb the stage in an archival Givenchy, also by Galliano.
2. Bad Bunny in Maison Margiela
The black flowers adorning Bad Bunny’s suit are said to represent the plant from the original fairytale of Sleeping Beauty which is also a nod to this year’s museum exhibition.
3. Taylor Russell in Loewe
Taylor Russell did not disappoint during her debut at the met gala. Her Loewe dress is a 3D printed wood illusion bodice that matches her skin tone and has an intricate artwork.
4. Lana Del Rey in Alexander McQueen
Lana Del Rey returns to the Met Gala carpet after her iconic last appearance in 2018 and once again stole the spotlight in an ethereal and dark but romantic fashion look. Continuing the tradition of iconic dresses paired with dramatic headpieces, she mesmerizes in an Alexander McQueen dress adorned with decorations resembling dry branches.
5. Mona Patel in Iris Van Herpen
Everyone on the internet wonders who was the woman who stole the show with her butterfly. It is Mona Patel, an entrepreneur from India. It was no surprise that she hits the theme, considering that she was styled by Law Roach who was also Zendaya’s stylist.
6. Elle Fanning in Balmain
Sleeping Beauty herself, Elle Fanning, showcases the fragility of the exhibit theme in her dress, which looks like it was made of glass but is actually made of resin. Her hair and make-up plus the birds in her dress also make her look like she belongs to a garden.
7. Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gaultier
Emma Chamberlain’s Jean Paul Gaultier resembles a ‘decaying’ photograph which fits the element of the Met exhibition while also putting a goth spin on it.
8. Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne
It took an entire team of seventy people 13,500 hours to create Gigi Hadid’s 2024 Met Gala look. Her Thom Browne white corseted gown was intricately crafted to give her the appearance of a statue adorned with flowers and vines.
9. Wisdom Kaye in Robert Wun
The internet also lauded Wisdom Kaye when he appears on the carpet in a suit that seemingly bears resemblance to a burnt petal of a red rose.
10. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt celebrated her culture while also incorporating the theme flawlessly into her sari, which featured a 20-foot-long train.
11. Honorable Mention: Anna Wintour in Loewe
Other celebrities should have taken notes from the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, in her custom Loewe look. She did not stray far from her signature blazer style but also incorporated the theme of the event, where she called all the shots.
