A total of 100 displaced workers in a remote village here have received a hog-raising livelihood assistance package from the government, a labor official said on Wednesday.

Marites Mercado, chief of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tri-City Field Office, said the recipients from Barangay Cambinocot received piglets, sacks of starter and grower feeds, vitamins, and dewormer.

“Each beneficiary received a livelihood assistance package worth over PHP29,000 with each one having their pigpens as a counterpart,” Mercado said.

The livelihood grant is part of the PHP3.2 million worth of livelihood assistance released by the labor agency benefiting farmers, vendors, former security guards, and other displaced workers in the city.

In August, jigs, materials, and equipment were also released to the first batch of beneficiaries.

The equipment and materials released to beneficiaries will be used for rice retailing, sari-sari stores, peanut selling, furniture-making, and fresh dressed chicken selling. (PNA)
