A new international container facility is set to be built in this municipality and is targeted for completion by the end of 2027.

In an email on Monday, the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said design and engineering studies on the new terminal are already underway with the commencement of construction scheduled in the first quarter of 2025.

“The new terminal represents a significant leap forward for Southern Luzon. We are building a world-class facility that will unlock a wave of economic benefits for the region and the country. It will create new employment opportunities, improve the quality of life for our host communities… and solidify Southern Luzon’s position as a key player in global trade, Christian Gonzalez, ICTSI executive vice president, said.

The terminal, which is estimated to entail a US$800 million investment, is envisioned to play a role in providing the marine handling needs required by the country’s renewable energy transition strategy for Southern Luzon.

Gonzalez said the Bauan-San Pascual-Batangas-STAR tollway diversion road and other expressway projects from Cavite to Bauan have significantly enhanced the accessibility of the planned terminal.

Strategically located 120 kilometers south of Manila and nine kilometers west of Batangas City, the Bauan facility is expected to become the premier international gateway for shippers based in Calabarzon, according to ICTSI.

ICTSI is touted as the Philippines’ largest multinational and transnational company, having established operations in both developed and emerging market economies in Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. (PNA)
