The city government will open more public parks to match its growing population.

Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Parks and Playground acting division chief, said Thursday they have already completed three pocket parks in various areas here.

Three more are expected to be finished this year, Dagasohan said.

“The local government still plans to create more open spaces and parks. The city strives to balance the population of Davao with corresponding open parks for children and adults to relax,” he said.

Vicenta Park, a 1.2 hectare lot donated by the Marfori Family, will open next month.

The recreational park will have a library, multipurpose building for activities, an amphitheater, pathways and path walks, and a bike lane, among other amenities.

Meanwhile, the Bago Aplaya Esplanade and Gulf View Esplanade along the Davao Coastal Road will also be fully operational soon, Dagasohan said.

The completed pocket parks in Bucana, Communal in Buhangin District, and in Los Amigos, Toril, are ready to be inaugurated by the city mayor.

Overall, Dagasohan said the city has 22 existing public parks.

Moreover, he said the Magsaysay Park, one of the oldest landmark here, will undergo a total rehabilitation to keep in stride with the times, while Toril Park will also be refurbished with more amenities.

The CENRO official also urged park goers to keep the state of cleanliness of the public parks to not waste the city’s investment. (PNA)
