The city government of Lapu-Lapu will distribute thousands of pesos in cash prizes to residents who have completed the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination doses during its 61st Charter Day on June 17, the mayor said on Monday.

The historical city reached the desired 80-percent population protection in December last year.

Mayor Junard Chan told his constituents in a social media post that the “Bakuna Awards Raffle” “is just one of our ways to thank you for responding to our request to get vaccinated,” citing that “achieving herd immunity would not have been successful if not for your cooperation.”

Through an electronic raffle, anyone who has received complete vaccine doses will have a chance to win a PHP50,000 grand prize.

“If you are one of those who have been vaccinated since the first day of our vaccination operation and you have received at least two doses or one dose of Johnson & Johnson, there is automatically a raffle entry,” Chan said.

According to the Lapu-Lapu City Health data, around 300,000 residents of the historical city can join the electronic raffle draw and grab the grand prize as well as the 2nd up to the 5th prizes.

The second prize is pegged at PHP40,000; 3rd prize at PHP35,000; and PHP25,00 and PHP15,000 for the 4th and 5th prize, respectively.

Chan cited the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. for assisting the city in its Covid-19 response, particularly in its effort to bolster vaccination by way of giving cash rewards.

He said the raffle draw for the vaccinated residents will be held after the Charter Day flag-raising ceremony on the morning of July 17.

“We will open the day with a flag-raising ceremony where we will also honor our front-liners and show off the day services they offer to the Oponganons (residents of the city),” he said.

The city will also hold the largest blood donation drive in the entire country with the goal of saving thousands of lives.

“We also aim to achieve the new record of most blood donations in a day currently held in Legazpi City,” Chan added. (PNA)
