The country’s positivity rate or the number of individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 has gone down to 2.1 percent this week from last week’s 2.7 percent, a health official said Tuesday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said there are only 3,145 individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 this week.

“Nagkakaroon ng konting pagtaas ang positivity rate ng Cordillera Administrative Region [CAR] mula sa 1.6 percent ito ay tumaas ng bahagya sa 1.7 percent (CAR’s positivity rate had a slight increase, from 1.6 percent, it went up to 1.7 percent),” Vergeire said during an online media forum.

Citing the latest testing data, Vergeire noted that there were 21,725 samples tested which is 0.5 percent lower than last week’s samples.

Meanwhile, the average Covid-19 daily cases this week is 21 percent lower compared to last week.

Currently, the country logs an average of 385 cases per day which is 100 infections lower compared to December 2021’s record before the Omicron variant had spread in our country.

Vergeire said the continued downtrend in the number of Covid-19 cases could be attributed to people’s observation of the health protocols including vaccination.

As of March 28, about 73.02 percent of the target population have received their complete primary series while 78.82 percent got their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

About 77.87 percent of the targeted adolescent population are fully vaccinated while only 5.82 percent of children have completed their primary series.

Around 75.63 percent of the elderly population are fully vaccinated while 93.1 percent of individuals with comorbidities have received their two doses of Covid-19 jabs. (PNA)
