In celebration of National Women’s Day, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Monday that women will receive free Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) rides on Tuesday, March 8.

Female commuters may start to avail themselves of the free rides starting from 7 AM to 9 AM and from 5 PM to 7 PM.

These free rides are in recognition of women’s contributions to society, according to the MRT-3 officer in charge General Manager Assistant Secretary, Eymard D. Eje.

“Kaisa po ng buong bansa ang pamunuan ng MRT-3 sa pagdiriwang at pagsaludo sa dedikasyon, galing, at puso ng bawat kababaihang Pilipino,” Eje said.

“Nawa sa simpleng paraan tulad ng aming libreng sakay ay makapaghatid tayo ng kasiyahan sa ating mga kababaihan sa kanilang espesyal na araw,” he added.

In line with the Alert Level 1 guidelines, DOTr also previously announced that public transportations would operate at full seating or 100% passenger capacity and would have no plastic barriers inside the public transport vehicles starting March 1. Under the new guidelines, MRT-3’s train set would now start accommodating 1,182 passengers from 827 passengers.

Given the new guidelines, DOTr and the entire MRT-3 management also ensures the safety of their passengers by strictly monitoring and implementing minimum public health protocols such as social distancing, proper wearing of face masks, and the prohibition on speaking, eating, and drinking inside the trains.
